1. (12 points) The native population of the Spanish colonies declined by as much as 90 percent between 1519 and 1605. Why did the native population decline so dramatically? Include at least three reasons in your explanation. How did the Spanish government respond to the dramatic decline?
THE SYSTEM WAS CRUEL AND THE INDIANS HAD TO WORK FROM MORNING TO NIGHTFALL THE NATIVED WERE TREATED TERRIBLY FROM SAVAGE BEATINGS TO NEVER-ENDING LABOR AND SHEER EXHAUSTEN. DESEASES WERE BROUGHT TO THE AMERICANS BY THE COLONISTS WHICH ALSO DESTROYED THE WHOLE NATIVE POPULATION.
2. (12 points) Identify at least two plants and two animals that were introduced to a new hemisphere as a result of the Columbian Exchange. Explain where they originated and where they went, and describe their impact on their new location.

3. (12 points) Describe the change that took place in the African slave trade in the 1500s. Describe the Middle Passage and its toll.
Initially African slave traders transported African slaves across the Sahara to Muslim lands to the north and east. Later Portuguese slave traders shipped African slaves across the Atlantic to the plantations Millions of slaves were mistreated over the course of 300 years. Two million slaves may have died of disease and mistreatment as they crossed the Atlantic.
