1. What does “intercultural” communication mean to you? In my opinion, intercultural communication is the way people of different cultures, races, ethnicities all communicate. It is also how different countries and cultures act and communicate with each other. Communicating with people of different counties, race, ethnicities, religions etc. Is a big part of working in America. Whether it's a large company that has stock and constantly communicating overseas or a small company that just has diversity in their company intercultural communication is necessary. An example, when President Obama was elected into office. When he was elected Kenya made a national holiday out of it. In the United States from the east to west coast the country celebrated while others hated the fact we had our first African American President. Hate crimes broke out more that year than any other year. Majority of the people saw this election was a way to improve intercultural communication in this world.
2. Define “intracultural” communication. How is this definition both similar and different to “intercultural” communication? Intracultural communication is the communication between at least two people from the same culture. The similarity between intercultural communication and intracultural communication is that they both relate to communication. Communication is a symbolic, interpretive, transactional, contextual process In which people create shared making. Even though intercultural communication and intracultural communication are both communication, in the intracultural communication, the communicators are from the same culture.
