Gay Marriages Yea or Nay
Whether or not to allow “Gay Marriages” or Same-Sex-Marriages is a question that brings up a lot of theories and debates. It all starts with whether or not people chose to be homosexual or if it is in their genes. In this paper I will touch on a few of these theories and questions. I will try to decide for myself if it should be legal or not. I am riding on the line in between the two and at this very moment unsure if it should be legal or not.
Homosexuality is not something that just popped up out of nowhere. It has been around since the time of the Abraham and Lot. God completely wiped out Sodom and Gomorrah, when the local men wanted to have relations with Lot’s guest. Whether it was sexually wrong or just flat out wrong for the men to try to force themselves on Lot’s guest is still debatable, but we have some of the earliest evidence of homosexual behavior It was also quite prevalent during early Greek culture. One famous Greek ruler who was a homosexual and rather preferred beautiful young boys over beautiful young girls was Alexander the Great. Also from this time period an excerpt from Plutarch Erotikos (Dialogue on Love) says, “The noble lover of beauty engages in love wherever he sees excellence and splendid natural endowment without regard for any difference in physiological detail.” (Ibid. 146). Beauty over gender is the defining characteristic, not so much as to whether it is right or wrong. In Chinese history homosexuality dates back to16th century B.C. and it was prevalent from dynasty to dynasty until 1740 A.D. when it was then deemed illegal. (China). There isn’t a lot of written history on lesbianism in Chinese history, but it was not out of the ordinary to find Emperors in homosexual relationships.
