Unit summary
The purpose of the unit is to enable the learner to understand teaching and learning strategies and approaches in lifelong learning and how to use these to meet the needs of learners. It includes how to create a learning environment that engages and motivates learners.

The learners | |participate in the SJA modules from the beginning of the sessions. However, I am aware that teaching adults from all backgrounds on these courses is | |a challenge on its own. I’m also aware that the learning and teaching strategies should be relevant and to their learning goals. Most importantly, | |taught in a way that motivates them and meets their needs. My lesson plans are strategically designed to cover the learner’s different learning | |styles. | | | |These are varied to cover the learner’s different senses to respond to things that they can see (visual), hear (auditory), or do (kinesthetic) | |Therefore, it is important to mix and match my teaching and resource selections. | | | |In SJA the majority of our learners are predominantly adults, therefore they have a range of skills and previous educational experiences. They are | |generally independent and have their own ways of learning the First Aid course. | | | |Therefore the following teaching and learning strategies are used to meet the learner’s needs. | |Visual -Videos/DVD, handouts, and demonstrations. | |Explain Demonstrate Imitate and Practice (EDIP) is a good learning strategy and a practical way of showing how things work for our learning.
