>Q) Identify the five (5) cultural dimensions stemming from Hofstede’s study. Using examples, explain how two (2) of these dimensions can impact upon international business. Culture is define by the dictionary as “the ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society”(oxford, 2013), also we have that “Culture is the collective programming of the mind distinguishing the members of one group or category of people from others”. (Hofstede 2010). Everyone how has done international business knows how hard can be try to build relationships with people of another countries. What happened when what you try to say doesn’t connect or doesn’t have any meaning, or you just are missing into a conversation? According to Mitchell the fear or madded a mistake is huge and the only way to avoid that, is that people how going into an international business should have “checklist of cultural do’s and don’ts” and followed always (2009). According to Hofstede they are five dimensions of culture national culture which one’s interferes in the international relationships and help to make distinguish between countries (2010). These Hofstede dimensions of national culture are: Power of distance, Uncertainty avoidance, masculinity-Femininity, Individualism-Collectivism and long & short terms. There are two of this dimensions which a personal opinion have a very important impact in the creation of international business. Firstly long-term versus short-term orientation, According to Hofstede usually people with a short term orientation will always looking for the absolute with a big respect for culture and try to get fast results (2010). For another hand are the Long-term orientation societies “…people believe that truth depends very much on situation, context and time.” Also they can adapt very easy to tradition and in deference between the short-terms, long-term cultures have a very strong impulse to invest and save (Hofstede 2010).
