Short Essay on Anthropology: Marriage and Divorce
In a society that thrives on being a instant generation that seeks spontaneous return on any investment that requires time or effort marriage is becoming an afterthought as the union of a man and woman seeking to model Christ’s love for the church as instructed in Ephesians. It seems that now many just view it as a means to get bills paid in a timely manner, obtain various benefits, and have guiltless sexual encounters. However it’s a much deeper covenant relationship, for with marriage comes understanding that the two become dance partners to the tunes that God provides. So in this essay I will explore the basic principles and understandings needed to have a marriage that may not be perfect but will model God’s love in the midst of imperfection. Also I will touch on the issues of both divorce and remarriage as these things are now becoming a common opt out clause many now have mentally added to their mental notes about marriage.

Author Gary Chapman in his book Love as a Way of Life, expressed that “authentic love brings out our authentic selves: the people we want to become.”(Chapman, 2008) This to me is largely relevant to biblical teaching that in the God himself felt that it was not good for man to be alone therefore he made a helpmate for him. With this belief in mind this type of union between man and his helpmate is repeated in the New Testament in Mark 10:6-9 and Ephesians 5:31-32 with Paul is comparing the marriage of man and woman to the relationship of Christ and His church. I like many biblical scholars would advise all to take note to the fact that if something is scripturally referred to three times then it is worthy of taking note of.
