Behind the Scenes of a Speech Pathlogist
"La vida es lo que haces que sea," means life is what you make it. Many people would like to make a difference, not only in their life, but in others' life as well. A speech pathologist is someone who treats individuals who suffer with speech problems. It is very intriguing how children develop communication skills. Everyone in this world has purpose or special gift to service others. Speech Pathology deals with human communication and disorders, which include speech, language, cognitive communication, and swallowing. There are a variety of different reasons why individuals suffer from communication problems such as: stroke, brain injury, developmental delays, voice pathology, mental retardation, etc. According to research, twenty-five to thirty-five percent of children suffer from a feeding/swallowing disorder from some kind. Speech pathologist's work with patients of all ages, infants to elderly. Speech pathologist's transport place to place. They can work in many different environments such as: public and private schools, hospitals, nursing homes, etc. Working in different atmospheres and a huge difference in age group requires a great enhance in knowledge, also great patience and being caring which are important requirements in this field. My interest in speech pathology happened when I was in middle school and I overcame my struggle with speech impediment. I am fortunute that I had spectacular teachers and mentors support overcome that challenge. I want to make that same impact on someone else's life. I am a very determined person, and I will strive to get where I want to be. Pursuing this dream would be very rewarding and a great experience for my life. I am a responsible, determined, honest, and a hardworking student. I feel confident that I can overcome any obstacle that life throws me. This experience will show me how amazing it is...
