The Narrative Of The Life Of Fredrick Douglass is the story of a black named, yep you guessed it, Fredrick Douglass. He is born a slave in the mid-1800s, on Colonel Lloyd's plantation. He never meets his father, and only gets to see his mother a few times before she dies. He was not allowed to go to her funeral because they were owned by different people. When Douglass turns seven he is sent to work for another man in Baltimore, there he soon learns to read and write, being taught by his master’s wife, getting the both of them in big trouble with her husband. But his thirst for knowledge still remains.

He Continues to find ways to educate himself, eventually learning more and more about the life of slavery that he lives. And eventually finds out that slaves keep in line, because they aren’t educated, and don’t know that what they are doing is wrong. When he asks his master if he could work for his freedom, he is sent Mr. Covey a notorious “slave breaker”. Who tries to break Douglass’s will, but when he stands up to Mr. Covey, they get into a fight, and after nearly two hours, Mr. Covey leaves him alone. After this, Douglass is sent to master after master, but he's always looking for a way to escape to freedom. His first attempt at freedom ultimately fails and he is sent back to captivity. He does not stop the fight for his freedom, and eventually succeeds at making his way to New York and then to Massachusetts. Even after he acquires his own freedom, he realizes he can't rest until all slavery is abolished. He not only becomes an abolitionist activist himself, but writes the narrative of his life to teach others how wrong and senseless slavery really is.
