1.1
The class teachers’ main role is to monitor and assess pupils’ achievement through the work provided to the child/young person. The teacher need to be aware of the progression made by all the children in their class and be able to report back to both the parents and other staff on the progress the child makes. My role as a teaching assistant is to support the class teacher whilst this ongoing assessment of pupils takes place. Supporting children who may require assistance the child has work to a certain target in the lesson which the teacher provides at the beginning of the lesson. This can be through using the following “WALT” method which is written on the board. This stands for WE ARE LEARNING TODAY. From this both the children and myself are clear about what we are learning. 1.2

The difference between formative and summative assessment is the following. Formative assessment monitors child or young person learning, which a child can use to improve their learning and for teacher who use it to improve their teaching. It helps children to see their strengths and weaknesses and the areas they need to improve on. It gives the teacher feedback on where the child is struggling on and can work towards improving these areas Summative assessment are used at the end of a certain learning in the form of projects and test to see if the child has understood what has been taught to them. It sees the progress a child has made in the learning objective they are being tested on. 1.3
